Cool Your Jets - T/Th 9am
Next week begins our 6 week summer series, Cool Your Jets yoga. This class will use Ayurvedic principles to create a practice that will help you keep active while staying cool during the intense summer heat. We will use pranayama (breath work) and drishti (gaze) combined with yoga poses to prevent a buildup of excess internal heat (pitta dosha) while also dispelling any heat already accumulated within the body.
How to tell if you already have an imbalance of pitta?
Some classic signs are inflammation (acne, rash, joint pain), indigestion, anger or irritability, unusual bleeding, and loose stools. The fastest way to get a handle on your pitta is to change your diet. Pungent, spicy foods, while popular here in Texas, are only going to make things worse. Tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic - all classic salsa ingredients - are especially heating. Pickled foods, as well, increase the heat in the body. Traditionally, foods were pickled to be preserved until the winter, when their heating qualities would best serve us. So put those pickled veggies aside and instead opt for lightly steamed or roasted versions.
Level 1 - Mondays 530p, Tuesdays 7p
Beginning July 11th, we will be offering Level 1 classes. If you have already been through our Beginner's Series, then this is the next step in your yoga journey. Simple asanas, basic flows, and a relaxing atmosphere will help you continue to build a solid foundation for your continuing practice. But you don't have to be a beginner to take this class! Physical or other limitations might guide you towards a gentler practice, which you will find here. Or perhaps you simply gravitate to a simpler practice, enabling you to go further inward. Whatever your yoga needs, we have a place for you here at Temple Yoga Wellness Center.
